Reading

For those who may not have heard it before, the USO has a great program called United Through Reading.
See their website at: http://www.unitedthroughreading.org/military/

The USO is run solely by volunteers so I urge you to support them if possible!

The United Through Reading Program is great because it allows deployed service members the opportunity to read a book to their children. For example, today I chose two books. The USO provides a video camera, a CD, and the packaging to record the parent reading the book. The book and the CD are then sent home so the child can see and hear their parent reading them a book. I did this twice for the girls in Kuwait and this is my first time since I've been here. Today, I read a book which is rather ironic, for Kendall. The book should actually be for both girls (and I told them so) because of the content of the book. Kendall's book is titled "The Kissing Hand". This is very ironic for us, because quite some time ago, I started this with my girls. I give the girls lots of kisses in their hands. Once I've kissed their hands, I have them squeeze the kisses by making a fist. Once they've squeezed the kisses, they remain in their hand until they need them. Whether the kisses are needed to get through a bad day at school or anything else, they will always have my kisses with them. This is what makes that book so great....I've already done it, the girls know what it is and I had the opportunity to refill their kisses on the video today. This book was a win for all of us, it was perfect!! I miss home terribly, so I'm wondering if the books are to ease the kids or ease the parents?? Who cares, as long as it works, right?!?!
